“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” – Carl Rogers

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I am currently working on my certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I specialize in play therapy and treating clients of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and behavioral issues. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Counseling from Texas Tech University. Clinical training and experience includes providing counseling services for children, teens, adults, couples and families in a non-profit organization, community college, and private practice settings. I also worked in a center for children with ASD using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Additionally, I have training using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).

We often avoid confronting our difficulties until feeling deeply uncomfortable or unsatisfied. Growth transpires when you acknowledge discomfort and unravel what has been buried. I believe it is an honor to accompany you on your journey towards clarity, healing, and fulfillment. I create an environment of collaboration, trust and, support to help you gain awareness, fully understand yourself, and foster growth.

In my work with children, kiddos are provided the opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings, desires, and through the use of play. Children develop the skills they need to cope with their feelings and move towards growth through play, expressive arts, and talking. When working with pre-teens/teens, I provide mostly talk therapy mixed with some activity therapy, and expressive arts. I also believe in the importance of parent collaboration in a child’s treatment to provide education, support, and parenting techniques.

Within my work with children on the spectrum, I use the approach of AutPlay Therapy. What is AutPlay Therapy you ask? AutPlay is a behavioral and play therapy treatment approach for children and adolescents (ages 3-18) with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and neurodevelopmental disabilities. AutPlay helps children to develop new skills in a fun and engaging way through the use of play. AutPlay addresses skill improvement and enhances competency in the areas of social skills, relationship development, and emotional regulation. As each child is thoroughly assessed, a treatment plan is designed to include specific interventions to improve skill deficits and parent concerns.

People with Autism Spectrum Disorder process the world in a unique and intricate way. Some common struggles of children on the spectrum tend are repetitious play, social skill deficits (i.e., eye contact, sharing and turn taking, initiating play), maintaining play, relating to others, managing feelings, imaginative play, and connecting with their world. When autistic children can learn skills to improve functioning, they are less likely to have behavioral issues and can more easily function within their environment.
